LIFE Researchers Visit Institute for Communications Research at Indiana University
Vanessa Vega, a LIFE graduate student researcher at Stanford’s Department of Communications, and Tiffany Lee, a LIFE graduate student researcher in UW’s Everyday Science and Technology Group, visited Annie Lang’s Institute for Communication Research Lab at Indiana University. This week-long visit allowed the two graduate students to work with graduate students at the ICR-Lab and develop expertise using psychophysiological measures (specifically, measurements of heart rate and skin conductance).

The visiting graduate students learned how to interpret and statistically analyze skin conductance and heart rate measures, and collected various learning materials to share with their respective research teams. Lang and others also discussed the potential of doing psychophysiology research across LIFE research studies, collecting psychophysiological measures in real world settings and discussing how to integrate paradigms of qualitative and quantitative research. In addition, the teams were able to synchronously collect and validate the physiological data being collected by the Stanford and UW’s recently purchased Infiniti ProComp System with the traditional Coulbourn equipment used by the ICR-Lab, the highest standard in psychophysiological research.

While at IU, Tiffany Lee also presented an overview of LIFE research and education activities to Professor Sasha Barab and his research group.
